BRITISH Transport Police has released 12 people on bail in relation to a spate of cash machine raids across England, including five in Surrey and Hampshire.

Since April 2007 there have been robberies at railway stations in Walton, Weybridge and Haslemere, with an entire cash machine being removed from Fleet station.

Police said they believed more than £2.2m had been taken over the course of more than 24 offences.

Fifteen people were arrested at addresses in east London last week following a lengthy police investigation codenamed Operation Flatline.

Nine men and three women have now been bailed to May 8 pending further police inquiries, while two women were released without charge.
