Protesters march over Pyestock

CAMPAIGNERS of all ages marched through a busy town centre on Saturday to protest against a mega depot plan they warn will ruin their area.

The march was organised by campaign group SPLAT (Stop Pyestock bLot Act Today), which is fighting plans for a massive warehouse on former Ministry of Defence land between Fleet and Farnborough.

SPLAT spokeswoman Shan Healey warned the depot would mean constant noise, air and light pollution, and congestion.

The march was held to publicise a special Hart District Council planning committee meeting that will discuss the depot plan.

It will be held in the Princes Hall, Aldershot, on March 19 at 7pm.

Representatives of SPLAT and joint developers Prupim and Astral will both have four minutes to speak on seven issues.

Prupim and Astral say its proposals will clean up the contaminated and derelict site and bring it back into productive use.

It says the site is ideally located for a distribution depot and that its proposal is in line with the council’s local plan, which proposes the site is used for employment purposes.
