Town is slowly being driven into the ground

Once again I read in your paper about what is to happen in our once great little town of Aldershot. We now have to endure months of turmoil while the roads are dug up on Hospital Hill, with the impact this will have across the area.

I have lived in Aldershot all my life and have seen the town slowly being driven into the ground. We have seen many of our shops closed down and replaced by charity shops, cafes, bars, estate agents etc. We have more of these than any town I know. Even our M&S is just an ‘Outlet’ and half the Galleries shopping centre is now empty.

What is the council doing to help bring business to the area? It increases parking charges, puts parking meters in areas that used to be free and then allows the area’s roads to be dug up. Is it trying to close the town centre and drive people to other areas such as Guildford?

What I don’t understand is that more and more homes are being built in this area. Surely we want to keep the income these new homes will bring to the local area. Or is the council happy to take the ever-increasing council tax but offer nothing back in return.
