Graffiti swastika offensive in Home of the British ArmyI have given photos of the offensive graffiti opposite Aldershot Town’s football ground to Pc Andrew Gardiner in the beat office at Aldershot Police Station so that they can take action to catch the culprits — who may also have been caught in the act on CCTV — and to Kevin Waggott at Rushmoor Borough Council so that they can remove it in line with the policy of removing inflammatory graffiti within 24 hours of it being reported.
It looked as though the swastika symbol and the BNP (British National Party), NF (National Front) and British Movement lettering was the work of some extremists, who wanted to attract the attention of football supporters to right-wing organisations.
Daubing the swastika symbol was particularly offensive, as Aldershot is the Home of the British Army, many thousands of whom gave their lives in the Second World War to defeat Hitler and his Nazis, who, under the swastika symbol, murdered millions in pursuit of their racist policies.
I am in favour of ‘zero tolerance’ of this kind of offensive graffiti, which should be removed as soon as it appears, and whose perpetrators should be caught and prosecuted for racially aggravated criminal damage.
